Week in Review

       aaa1

Good Monday morning! I hope you had a fabulous week. After two weeks of just going to school one day, my kids finally went to school for almost a whole week. They had a delay on Friday but at least they went eventually. And now, Spring has finally arrived in North Carolina. The 10-day forecast looks wonderful, so M and I got outside yesterday and planted our carrots and onions. Hopefully we'll be able to plant the rest within a few weeks.

Reviews and Blog Posts

I only managed one post last week. I'm not really sure what happened, but somehow I never got around to writing more than that. This week, I have several things planned so you'll see a lot more of me!

Book Review: Relish: My Life in the Kitchen by Lucy Knisley

Storied Life of A.J. Fikry Reading
I have been reading The Daughter: A Novel by Jane Shemilt for the entire week. I will finish it today and post my review tomorrow for the tour. After that, I'll probably start The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry: A Novel by Gabrielle Zevin, since I picked it up from the library on the weekend. It's my March book club selection.

C is reading The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells. He seems to be enjoying it! He had to pick a poem to recite at school this month, so I got him a couple poetry books as well from the library. He wanted something humorous so he's picking one of the poems from For Laughing Out Loud: Poems to Tickle Your Funnybone by Jack Prelutsky.

What are you reading this week? It's Monday! is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey, so hop over there if you'd like to see what others are reading too. You can also check out the younger version of It's Monday!

  1. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on The Daughter, I've read some good reviews for it. I loved A. J. Fikry, one of my favorite books last year.

  2. I hear you - my son only went to school 2 days last week! We are still covered with snow here from last week's storm, but it went up to 50 today (!) so hopefully, we will be thinking spring by the end of the week.

I just bought The Storied Life of AJ Fikry for my friend for her birthday. I'd heard it was a very uplifting novel which is right up her alley - hope you like it!

    1. I'm glad to hear that about AJ Fikry. I also heard it was a quick read, which is what I need right about now! I had to get the large print version because that's all that was available at the library, so I figure it will be even easier to read, even when I'm tired!

  3. The War of the Worlds! Fun!
And enjoy Fikry. It's very charming.

    1. Yes! I was excited to hear he decided to read that. He read The Time Machine for school and the book we have includes three other stories by H.G. Wells.

Freedom to Read Giveaway Hop

I Am A Reader, Not A Writer and Mundie Moms are hosting the Freedom to Read Giveaway Hop in honor of Independence Day in the United States, and I've decided to participate.

To stick with the theme of Independence Day, I'm doing what I did last year for this hop:

I'm giving away a book of your choice that is written by an author from the United States.
It can be any genre as long as the author is from the United States. You choose the book (up to $15), and I'll order it and have it mailed to you from Book Depository.

The contest ends on Thursday, July 5th at midnight Eastern Time. The winner will be notified by e-mail. If they do not respond within 48 hours, a new winner will be drawn.

Happy 4th of July! I hope you have a safe and fun holiday!

Getting back to blogging

It seems that blogging has dropped to the bottom of my list for the past year, and was pretty low for the year or two prior to that. I love to read, and am continuing to do so, but as my regular readers know I haven't been around much. My last blog post was almost a year ago!!

There are many things that have taken me away from blogging. Work has been much more challenging and interesting these past few years, but that means I really don't want to get back on the computer when I get home at night - or on the weekends.

Family life has been more busy with kids having multiple activities in the evenings, leaving little time to just hang out and write about the books that I read.

I will admit to a bit of a Facebook addiction, which means way too much time spent scrolling through my newsfeed instead of doing something more productive. This is one of the things I'm working on and hoping that this will free up some time for getting back to the blog.

Overall, life is good. Work is …
