Good morning. I hope you've had a great week. The highlight of my week was an author signing on Friday night. I took the whole family to see Weird Al Yankovic at a local bookstore. He was signing his new book, My New Teacher and Me!, which is a follow up to When I Grow Up, which we all love. The new book features the same character as his first, Billy, and it's a really cute.
Recent Reviews and Other Posts
Last week, I reviewed a fun thriller by Allan Leverone: Parallax View. I also posted an interview with author Ann Whitely-Gillen.
I'm now reading The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein. It's my July book club book. It's okay so far, but I am not really into dogs or racing, so I don't think it's going to be a favorite for me.
I still have The Diabolist by Layton Green waiting for me to finish. It's a great book, but I want to get one more book club book out of the way before I read the rest of it.
I also started reading The Silver Star by Jeannette Walls last week, but I could not get into it. I think I'm going to pass on that one, which really surprised me. I loved her other two books.
I'm going to finish The Diabolist before starting anything else! Then I think I'll pick up The Lake House by Marci Nault. I'm hoping to read a few real "summer reads" this summer. I'm also going to focus on writing reviews finally. I am way behind!!
C was so excited when he saw Fyre by Angie Sage at the book store on Friday. He had read the rest of the Septimus Heap series last year, but hadn't read this last book yet. He's about halfway through and is really enjoying it.
What M is Reading
M has been reading a variety of books from her shelf. She doesn't seem as interested in the chapter books lately, so I'm not pushing her.

I have heard great things about Art of Racing. I also am not into dogs etc but so many sat it don't matter, hope you end up really enjoying it. To bad about Silver Star, I am intrigued, I loved Glass Castle and want to read one of the others.
ReplyDeleteHer other memoir, Half Broke Horses, was great. So if you want to read another book of hers, I'd recommend that one.
DeleteYou met Weird Al??? Oh, my boys are going to be so jealous!!! They are huge Weird Al fans. I did hear he'd been writing picture books lately. He is an incredibly brilliant, smart guy - some of his song parodies are just sooo clever.
ReplyDeleteGive The Art of Racing in the Rain a chance. I am definitely not a dog person (nor into racing either), but it's not really about those things. It's about life and love - a really excellent book. I read it for a book group, too, and was so glad I did - I never would have picked it up otherwise.

Yes, we met Weird Al. How funny is that! We showed the kids the video for Eat It before we went, but they just didn't get it. LOL! His picture books are great, particularly the When I Grow Up one.
DeleteI'm about halfway through The Art of Racing in the Rain now. It's better but I do find I'm skimming a bit. I can see it's more deep than racing and dogs. I'm hoping to really get into it through the second half.
I read The Art of Racing in the Rain a few years ago. I liked it, but I didn't love it.
