I'm a few days late, but I'm here! Life is crazy in the summer with the kids going to different camps each week, and work has been busy as well. Plus, C is doing golf lessons and piano lessons every week. I'm having a hard time figuring out which way I'm going most days! I have managed to get some reading in though.
Recent Reviews and Other Posts
Last week, I wrote a review for The Rockin' Chair by Steven Manchester. That's about it. Another slow week!
I managed to finish Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah about an hour before my book club meeting last night. I enjoyed it. It's definitely a summer read, and it wasn't perfect. But I found it entertaining and it reminded me that I really need to get in touch with a friend I haven't talked to in a long time!
I'm now reading Parallax View by Allan Leverone. I'm supposed to review this one tomorrow, so either I will finish it tonight and review it, or I will write up a book spotlight for it tomorrow and read the rest of it after that. That's what I did with The Diabolist by Layton Green a couple weeks ago and I still haven't managed to pick it up and finish it. But I think I'm finally coming to the end of my review commitments until August. Whew!
When I finally get through those two books, I think I'll read The Silver Star by Jeannette Walls. Technically, it's another review book since I got it from NetGalley, but at least there's no time commitment!
What C is Reading
C finished The Hero's Guide to Storming the Castle by Christopher Healy. Then he read The Son of Sobek by Rick Riordan. He actually read that before camp this morning. It's a short story and he liked it. But I couldn't believe how fast he read it!
What M is Reading
M still hasn't finished the three books that have been halfway read for a few weeks now: Junie B. Jones and a Little Monkey Business and Junie B., First Grader Boss of Lunch, both by Barbara Park, and Ivy and Bean Break the Fossil Record by Annie Barrows. I'm thinking we need to start focusing on reading. It seems our summer schedule has taken both kids away from reading a bit. This has never been an issue in our house before, so I want to fix it before they start sliding backwards!
What are you reading this week? It's Monday! is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey, so hop over there if you'd like to see what others are reading too.
