Week in Review

Welcome back to another weekly recap. I hope you had a good couple of weeks. I missed my recap last week. Life has been busy as usual. Before I get started, I just have to say that I am so saddened by the bombing at the Boston Marathon. I am from the Boston area and am glad to know my family and friends are safe. But I am heartbroken for everyone who was hurt and their families as well. It's just so hard to imagine this has happened.

Recent Reviews and Other Posts
Last weekend, I posted an interview with Starr Gardinier Reina last weekend. I've been silent otherwise. I have a couple reviews to write so hopefully that will happen this week.

What I'm Reading
I read The Hero's Guide to Storming the Castle by Christopher Healy. It was a fun continuation of that series!

Now I'm reading Saving CeeCee Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman for book club.

Up Next for Me
I'm not sure what I'll pick up next, but it will be something from my Spring Reading Thing list.

What C is Reading
C finished the Charlie Bone series so he has now started The Secret Kingdom by Jenny Nimmo, the first book in the Chronicles of the Red King series. This is the follow on to Charlie Bone, I believe. I happened to go to the library without him and picked it out, so I'm glad to see he's already halfway through the first book in just two days!!

What M is Reading
M has started reading the first Ivy and Bean book and she's enjoying it. I'm so excited for her that she's at that reading level now. She'll have lots of options for books to read. At school, her guided reading book is about butterflies so we got another butterfly book from the library: Are You a Butterfly? by Judy Allen. What a cute book! And it gives such detail about the science of metamorphosis and the life of a caterpillar and butterfly. I highly recommend if if you're teaching your kids about butterflies, and I'm going to check out the other books in this series as well!

What are you reading this week? It's Monday! is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey, so hop over there if you'd like to see what others are reading too.

  1. Glad to hear from you!! I stopped by yesterday looking for you :)

I tried to get Craig interested in Chronicles of the Red King (he so rarely finds a book he wants to read and loved Carlie Bone), but by the time it came out a few years ago, he'd kind of outgrown it. Hope C enjoys it!

Going to look for your review of The Kitchen House - I really liked it, though it made me cry!

    1. That's too bad that Craig outgrew the series too soon. I didn't realize there were only two books so far. C read through them already so that's done. Now he's just re-reading some of his old books until he finds something new to read.

  2. Yay for Ivy and Bean! Hope M loves it. My middle child still likes that series! As a 5th grader, they are easy for her but she's nostalgic about them!

    1. So far she's really enjoying the book! And she's been reading it mostly on her own.

Freedom to Read Giveaway Hop

I Am A Reader, Not A Writer and Mundie Moms are hosting the Freedom to Read Giveaway Hop in honor of Independence Day in the United States, and I've decided to participate.

To stick with the theme of Independence Day, I'm doing what I did last year for this hop:

I'm giving away a book of your choice that is written by an author from the United States.
It can be any genre as long as the author is from the United States. You choose the book (up to $15), and I'll order it and have it mailed to you from Book Depository.

The contest ends on Thursday, July 5th at midnight Eastern Time. The winner will be notified by e-mail. If they do not respond within 48 hours, a new winner will be drawn.

Happy 4th of July! I hope you have a safe and fun holiday!

Getting back to blogging

It seems that blogging has dropped to the bottom of my list for the past year, and was pretty low for the year or two prior to that. I love to read, and am continuing to do so, but as my regular readers know I haven't been around much. My last blog post was almost a year ago!!

There are many things that have taken me away from blogging. Work has been much more challenging and interesting these past few years, but that means I really don't want to get back on the computer when I get home at night - or on the weekends.

Family life has been more busy with kids having multiple activities in the evenings, leaving little time to just hang out and write about the books that I read.

I will admit to a bit of a Facebook addiction, which means way too much time spent scrolling through my newsfeed instead of doing something more productive. This is one of the things I'm working on and hoping that this will free up some time for getting back to the blog.

Overall, life is good. Work is …
