Good morning. I'm writing this ahead of time since I'll be on the road on Monday, heading home from a weekend in Myrtle Beach visiting my mother-in-law. We had a nice weekend, even though it was pretty cold at the beach.
Last week, I had my book club meeting where we discussed Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand. I didn't manage to finish the book before the meeting, and I still have about 50 pages to go, but it was still a great discussion. I didn't bring the book on my trip so I'll finish it this coming week.
I did bring my Nook to the beach, so I started reading The Ruins of Us by Kaija Parssinen.
Last week, I wrote two reviews. The first was for The Secret of the Sacred Scarab by Fiona Ingram, a middle grade novel that was very good. The second was for The Art of Life by Sabin Howard and Traci L. Slatton, the first book for my Non-Fiction Non-Memoir Reading Challenge.
This week, I hope to get time to write a couple more reviews since I'm a bit behind.
Currently Reading
I plan to finish Unbroken this week, and then I'm hoping to also finish The Ruins of Us.
Up Next
Next, I'll be moving on to another middle grade book, Nate Rocks the World by Karen Toz.
What are you reading this week? This meme is being hosted by Sheila at Book Journey, so hop over there if you'd like to see what others are reading too.
I am reading too many books right now! I'm falling off track while doing so, too. :) Found out about a free Kindle book newsletter and using the app now (don't own a Kindle yet) and ack! It's crazy. It's easy reading - that freebie stuff - so that's extra books to tack on to my days. Started Cinderella Ate My Daughter this AM, and have to finish Folly Beach by month's end to review!
ReplyDeleteI have so many free books in my Nook I don't think I'll ever get to all of them! Can't wait to hear what you think of Cinderella Ate My Daughter!
DeleteThe Ruins of Us sounds really intriguing...looking forward to reading your thoughts on that.
ReplyDeleteI, too, am behind on reviews...hoping to get a bunch done this week. My It's Monday post can be found here.
It is proving to be a very interesting story. Good luck on your reviews!
DeleteI agree, The Ruins of Us sounds like a really good book. It's a subject matter I have not read about before and I always like books like that.
ReplyDeleteIt is something I haven't really read in the past either so I'm enjoying it.
DeleteA friend of mine writes a column in my local newspaper, and at least once a year she interviews local readers and gets their favorites for the year. Unbroken was a fave for 3 out of the 10 this year. Not bad! Hope you enjoy the last 50 pages. :)
ReplyDeleteIt is excellent. I can see why it was so high on that list!
DeleteHow did everyone enjoy Unbroken? I read Seabiscuit, also by this author, so am curious about your opinion of Unbroken.
ReplyDeleteHave a terrific week!
Everyone enjoyed it. It made for an excellent discussion as well.
DeleteI hope you enjoyed your trip to Myrtle Beach, Julie. It had to be at least a little warmer than up here!
ReplyDeleteGlad you are enjoying Unbroken. What did your book group think of it? My husband and I both read it last year, but I would have liked to discuss it with one of my book groups.
Enjoy your books this week!
Sue
It was a great book to discuss at book club. I highly recommend it for book clubs. We had several different topics to discuss. At least you and your husband were able to discuss it with each other!
DeleteI read three books this week: Illustrated Mum by Jacqueline Wilson, Night Swim by Jessica Keener and Cracked by K.M. Walton. I love debut novels, and Keener's and Walton's fit that bill. So glad that I found your blog via Twitter. I look forward to reading more of your reviews.
