Mid-Read-a-Thon Survey

1. What are you reading right now?
I'm reading The Road by Cormac McCarthy. I'm actually about to finish it. Yay!

2. How many books have you read so far?
I've been reading The Road all day - spent about 4 hours reading so far today in between family time. I also read Why are the Ice Caps Melting? and Atlantis: The Lost City? to my son just now as he's going to bed.

3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon?
I'm going to try to finish Serena by Ron Rash finally.

4. Did you have to make any special arrangements to free up your whole day?
Not really. I have been going along with my normal daily activities in between trying to read. That's why I haven't managed to read a whole lot yet.

5. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those?
I've just been stopping reading, unfortunately.

6. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far?
Nothing really, although I'm a bid disappointed I haven't been online much today to do the mini-challenges.

7. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?
 Nope.

8. What would you do differently, as a Reader or a Cheerleader, if you were to do this again next year?
I'd carve out time to actually dedicate to reading rather than trying to fit it in the way I'm doing now.

9. Are you getting tired yet?
Not really. I plan to stay up late reading.

10. Do you have any tips for other Readers or Cheerleaders, something you think is working well for you that others may not have discovered?
No, but I'll be checking out everyone else's tips to help me next time!!

Getting back to blogging

It seems that blogging has dropped to the bottom of my list for the past year, and was pretty low for the year or two prior to that. I love to read, and am continuing to do so, but as my regular readers know I haven't been around much. My last blog post was almost a year ago!!

There are many things that have taken me away from blogging. Work has been much more challenging and interesting these past few years, but that means I really don't want to get back on the computer when I get home at night - or on the weekends.

Family life has been more busy with kids having multiple activities in the evenings, leaving little time to just hang out and write about the books that I read.

I will admit to a bit of a Facebook addiction, which means way too much time spent scrolling through my newsfeed instead of doing something more productive. This is one of the things I'm working on and hoping that this will free up some time for getting back to the blog.

Overall, life is good. Work is …

Freedom to Read Giveaway Hop

I Am A Reader, Not A Writer and Mundie Moms are hosting the Freedom to Read Giveaway Hop in honor of Independence Day in the United States, and I've decided to participate.

To stick with the theme of Independence Day, I'm doing what I did last year for this hop:

I'm giving away a book of your choice that is written by an author from the United States.
It can be any genre as long as the author is from the United States. You choose the book (up to $15), and I'll order it and have it mailed to you from Book Depository.

The contest ends on Thursday, July 5th at midnight Eastern Time. The winner will be notified by e-mail. If they do not respond within 48 hours, a new winner will be drawn.

Happy 4th of July! I hope you have a safe and fun holiday!
