It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

I'm running very late this Monday morning. I hope you had a wonderful weekend. We had a busy weekend but it was mostly fun. This is a short week for us because we're heading to Disney World at the end of the week! Woohoo!

I had a decent week of reading and blogging last week. First, I participated in the Lucky Leprechaun Giveaway and gave away two sets of books. That was a lot of fun and I got a whole slew of new followers through the giveaway hop so Welcome to My Book Retreat!!

I put up a review of My Stroke of Insight by Jill Bolte Taylor. This was a fascinating memoir about a brain researcher who experiences a stroke herself. It was very educational and inspirational. Click on the title to read my review.

Finally, I joined the Spring Reading Thing challenge again, and have committed to reading eight specific books during the Spring season. I'm sure I'll read a lot more than that, but I'm just not sure of the other titles yet!

Currently Reading
I started Serena by Ron Rash last week. Then on Saturday I took my Nook to my daughter's dance class and started reading Spinning by Michael Baron. I don't usually have two books going at once so I've kind of switched over to reading Spinning and figure I'll get back to Serena when I'm done with that. I'm also still reading Aliens on Vacation by Clete Smith to my son.

Up Next
Since I'll be going out of town on the weekend, I'm going to read something on my Nook next. I think I'll start The Girl's Guide to Homelessness by Brianna Karp.

What are you reading this week? This meme is being hosted by Sheila at Book Journey, so hop over there if you'd like to see what others are reading too.

To stick with the theme of Independence Day, I'm doing what I did last year for this hop:

It can be any genre as long as the author is from the United States. You choose the book (up to $15), and I'll order it and have it mailed to you from Book Depository.

The contest ends on Thursday, July 5th at midnight Eastern Time. The winner will be notified by e-mail. If they do not respond within 48 hours, a new winner will be drawn.

Happy 4th of July! I hope you have a safe and fun holiday!

Getting back to blogging

It seems that blogging has dropped to the bottom of my list for the past year, and was pretty low for the year or two prior to that. I love to read, and am continuing to do so, but as my regular readers know I haven't been around much. My last blog post was almost a year ago!!

There are many things that have taken me away from blogging. Work has been much more challenging and interesting these past few years, but that means I really don't want to get back on the computer when I get home at night - or on the weekends.

Family life has been more busy with kids having multiple activities in the evenings, leaving little time to just hang out and write about the books that I read.

I will admit to a bit of a Facebook addiction, which means way too much time spent scrolling through my newsfeed instead of doing something more productive. This is one of the things I'm working on and hoping that this will free up some time for getting back to the blog.

Overall, life is good. Work is …
