Well, Banned Books Week is over. I'm so glad I spent some time reading about this issue, and that I was able to read a couple books that have been challenged over the years. I ended up reading The Adventures of Captain Underpants by Dav Pilkey with my son. I also read The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway. Both books have been challenged over the years. Next year, I hope to remember this special week earlier, so I can plan to read more books from the frequently challenged lists.
In addition to the banned books, I also read and reviewed Bobo's Daughter by Bonnie Barnett. This was a fascinating, and heartbreaking memoir written by the daughter of Chester "Bobo" Barnett, the famous circus clown.
And I read and reviewed a children's book called Hoo Hoo's Song by Amanda Kleback. This is a sweet story of a bear who follows the song in his heart to the woman who needs him most.
Finally, I put together a list of some great Fall picture books that we've been reading.
I'm currently reading a manuscript of a new novel by a friend of a friend.
Next, I'm going to read Little Bee by Chris Cleave, which is my book club's October selection. And after that is Back to the Homeplace by William Leverne Smith.
