Book Review: Forget Me Not by Vicki Hinze

Forget Me Not by Vicki Hinze is a cross between a Christian fiction novel and a suspense novel. The two main characters are a woman with very strong Christian faith, and a man, Ben, who lost his faith after the murder of his wife and son three years earlier. The two are brought together after the woman is attacked and ends up in the crisis center that Ben owns.

She goes to the crisis center because when she wakes after her attack, she has amnesia and can't remember who she is. But she finds their business card along with a cross necklace in her pocket. She sees this as a sign that God wants her to go to this crisis center. The problem is that she looks just like Ben's dead wife, Susan. And to make matters worse, the cross she's wearing belonged to Susan and has been missing since she was murdered.

Ben eventually agrees to help this Susan look-alike stay safe from those who are trying to kill her, and find out who she is. He hopes she will also lead him to the truth about the murder of his wife and child. I won't say much more about the plot than this, since I don't want to give anything else away. But the mystery is very complex and intriguing, and the story is rather unique.

This was definitely a page-turner because of the mystery aspect of the story. This was my first Christian fiction novel, so I'm not sure what the norm is in this genre. But this story is very focused on the woman's faith and her desire to help Ben find his way back to God. I did feel that the way the relationship between the two main characters changed during the course of the novel was a bit unrealistic given the fact that the story only takes place over a few days. But it was an endearing story.

I think this novel will mostly appeal to fans of Christian fiction, because there is such a focus on this woman's faith and her trust in God to keep her safe and lead her in the right direction. Readers of general suspense novels should also enjoy it as long as they're okay with the strong Christian focus. This is the first in a new Crossroads Crisis Center series, so look for more books to come.

My Rating: 3.5/5

  1. Thanks for mentioning the strong Christian focus of this one. I had read another review that made me want to read this book, but now I'm not so sure, religious books not really being my thing. Hmmmm....

Getting back to blogging

It seems that blogging has dropped to the bottom of my list for the past year, and was pretty low for the year or two prior to that. I love to read, and am continuing to do so, but as my regular readers know I haven't been around much. My last blog post was almost a year ago!!

There are many things that have taken me away from blogging. Work has been much more challenging and interesting these past few years, but that means I really don't want to get back on the computer when I get home at night - or on the weekends.

Family life has been more busy with kids having multiple activities in the evenings, leaving little time to just hang out and write about the books that I read.

I will admit to a bit of a Facebook addiction, which means way too much time spent scrolling through my newsfeed instead of doing something more productive. This is one of the things I'm working on and hoping that this will free up some time for getting back to the blog.

Overall, life is good. Work is …
