Teaser Tuesdays

I've decided to start participating in a new weekly meme. Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. To participate, you're supposed to share two teaser sentences from a random page in the book you're currently reading.

Here's my teaser:
